On Monday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Danuta Hübner, European Regional Policy Commissioner

 

The Parties stressed the necessity of developing cooperation between Ukraine and the European Parliament at the regional level.

 

V.Lytvyn believes that such cooperation presupposes enhancement of the role of the local self-government bodies, equal development of regions and extension of trans-frontier cooperation.

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that Ukraine was interested in the assistance of the European community in the development of the effective concept of regional development of the Crimean Autonomous Republic, as this specific area required attention on the part of not only official Kyiv, but also the whole Europe.  

 

V.Lytvyn appreciates the necessity of common development and implementation of the Danube strategy, as "it is of economic, regional, and political importance". "The stand of the European Union is crucial", - he stated. He reiterated that the EU member-States, the countries-candidates for the EU-membership and exclusively Ukraine were involved in the development of this strategy. "It is a great honour and a demanding test for Ukraine", - V.Lytvyn stated.   

 

The Parties also expressed their willingness to extend cooperation between the European Parliament and The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the political and pragmatic dimensions.

 

As it was reported, on 30 November-1 December, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stays with a working visit in Brussels (the Kingdom of Belgium). Today, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall meet Pavlo Koval, Head of the European Parliament Delegation for Liaison with Ukraine.

 

On Tuesday, V.Lytvyn shall meet Kristian Vigenin, European Parliament Chairman of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, Patrick Deval, President of the Belgium House of Representatives, and other political groups of the European Parliament.
